Lil Nas X sends message to BET Awards in new single

The industry baby is back! As announced, during the early hours of today (24) Lil Nas X released his new single, titled “Late To Da Party”, in partnership with rapper YoungBoy Never Broke Again. The track inaugurates the new era of the 23-year-old musician, after the success of “MONTERO”, their debut album. In the lyrics and music video, Nas X highlights his dissatisfaction with the lack of nominations for the 2022 BET Awards.

The humorous clip with an acidic tone is an aesthetic counterpoint to the artist's visual history, which has presented great productions since his first big success: “Old Town Road”. With poorly made collages and green backgrounds without the slightest commitment to looking realistic, Lil and Youngboy share the excerpts that easily come to mind.

The controversy surrounding the song became even stronger when the artist shared an alternative cover for the single in which a BET Awards statuette was inside a toilet with urine being made on it. In the music video, one of the opening scenes features the rapper creating the montage, which is a reference to a photo of Kanye West, but with the gramophone from the Grammy Awards.

Controversy with the BET Awards; understand what happened:

After delivering one of the best-selling and most highly regarded albums of 2021 to the music industry, Lil Nas X received no nominations for the 2022 BET Awards, an award known for valuing and encouraging black music. According to the rapper, the situation is a case of homophobia.

“BET is homophobic. You're being stupid if you don't think it's because Lil Nas X is gay. No way 'Industry Baby' wasn't nominated for Best Collaboration. This song was huge last year.”, Lil began.

“The funny thing is, Industry Baby was the biggest song Jack and I released last year in the eligibility period, but only one of us got a nomination.”he vented.
