Liverpool beat Chelsea after penalties in FA Cup final,
Liverpool won the FA Cup on Saturday for the eighth time in club history. The team of coach Jürgen Klopp was in the final at Wembley after penalties too strong for Chelsea.
Both in regular time and in extra time, no goals were scored in London, so a penalty shootout had to bring the decision. Liverpool was the strongest with 7-6.
Liverpool had to deal with a downer after more than half an hour of play when Mohamed Salah had to leave the field with an injury. It is not yet known how serious the Egyptian’s injury is and whether he will miss the Champions League final against Real Madrid in exactly two weeks.
Liverpool captured the FA Cup for the first time since 2006. Previously, ‘The Reds’ won the English Cup in 1965, 1974, 1986, 1989, 1992 and 2001.
Earlier this season, Liverpool also took the League Cup at the expense of Chelsea. Then, after 120 goalless minutes, the final also turned out to be penalties, which Liverpool won 11-10 after a blood-curdling series.
Thanks to winning the FA Cup, Liverpool can still win four trophies this season. The club is with Manchester City also involved in the battle for the English league title. With two rounds to go, City are three points ahead.

Díaz makes it difficult for Chelsea defence
In the first half, Liverpool had the better of the game, with Luis Díaz as the standout. The Colombian forward constantly caused the Chelsea defence problems with his individual actions.
In the eighth minute, Salah headed over, after Díaz had previously seen a shot turned away by goalkeeper Édouard Mendy.
Chelsea then grew into the game and had chances to open the scoring through Christian Pulisic, Marcos Alonso and Romelu Lukaku. Just before half-time, Jota failed to put Liverpool ahead.
The Portuguese took a cross from Andrew Robertson suddenly on the slipper, but shot over.
Chelsea started the second half strongly and created danger through Alonso and Pulisic. Both teams then created chances, but did not score.
In the closing stages, Hakim Ziyech came into the field at Chelsea and Liverpool were close to the winning goal a number of times.
Díaz shot at the post after a clever individual action and Robertson missed an imposed chance; his effort also landed on the post.
In extra time, Virgil van Dijk was immediately substituted at Liverpool and both teams could hardly become dangerous, so the penalty series had to bring the decision. César Azpilicueta missed on behalf of Chelsea, but Sadio Mané failed to decide the battle.
Mason Mount then saw his effort turned around, after which former Willem II defender Kostas Tsimikas finished it off.
