“Luckily, I haven't died yet”

Aged 73, Faustão, hospitalized since August 5th at the Albert Einstein Hospital – information only revealed on August 17th through a medical bulletin – in São Paulo, is undergoing treatment for heart failure and has surgery expected in the next few days . To reassure fans, the presenter recorded a video from the hospital saying that he is fine. The hospital informed, in a note, that Fausto Silva “he is stable and in intensive care”.

The presenter had already been hospitalized before, at the beginning of 2018, due to heart problems, due to coronary disease, which was when he had stents fitted – small tubes placed inside the artery, with the aim of preventing further clogging.

The reason that led Fausto Silva to record the video, posted by João Guilherme Silva, son of the presenter, on Instagram, was to reassure everyone. In good humor, as always, Faustão mentioned his medical team, spoke about his daughter's debut as a presenter, about the surgery – which has not yet been defined -, said that he is prepared for things in life” and asked for prayers, but also stated: “…It's the boss up there who decides.”

Career

Fausto Correia da Silva, presenter, journalist, radio host and filmmaker, better known as Faustão, began his career at the age of 14 as a radio host on the Centenário de Araras radio station, in the interior of São Paulo.

He worked on several other radio stations, already in the capital of São Paulo, and worked as a sports reporter for the newspaper “O Estado de S. Paulo”. Back on the radio, he commanded the program “Balancê” on Globo radio, which already allowed him the “Faustão” way of presenting, savagely.

In 1980, he began presenting the program “Perdidos na Noite”, on TV Gazeta, a program he created himself. He then took it to Record and Band, when its success caught the attention of TV Globo, where it debuted in March 1989, on Easter Sunday. The station's new Sunday afternoon program aimed to gain the audience from SBT's “Programa Silvio Santos”.

Faustão became famous for his catchphrases: “oh crazy, man” and “Who knows, maybe do it live”, He won the “Troféu Imprensa” award as a new presenter in 1984, in 1985 and 1986 for the program “Perdidos na Noite” and later, in 2004, 2006 and 2008 for the program “Domingão”.

His last “Faustão na Band” program was shown yesterday, August 18, and was attended by his children on stage, João and Lara, and also brought tributes from his famous colleagues, due to his farewell to television, which generated confusion among the public who already knew about his hospitalization and the seriousness of his health condition. This situation led to the presenter's video, published on social media.
