Victory for Nicolás Maduro. Last Monday (6), Vladimir Padrino López, Minister of Defense of Venezuela, declared that the National Bolivarian Armed Force of Venezuela (FANB) will recognize Maduro as the country's elected president.
Despite the appeals of the opposition leader, Edmundo González, Padrino did not give in, making it clear that he “does not obey the designs or mandates of other imperial powers”.
If everything goes as planned, the presidential inauguration will take place on January 10th. Maduro has held the presidency of Venezuela since 2013.
Extreme situation
The country has been experiencing strong political tension since the National Electoral Council proclaimed Nicolás Maduro's victory. The opposition rejects this result, claiming that it won the election.
In a statement made last Saturday (4), former opposition candidate, Edmundo González, made it clear that he will go to Caracas to assume the Venezuelan presidency on January 10th. If this happens, there is a great risk of him being arrested by the Chavista government.
The president of the National Assembly of Venezuela, Jorge Rodríguez, has already threatened González with arrest if he returns to the country. A significant development of this narrative is expected by next Friday (10).

The Venezuelan political crisis
On July 25, 2024, the election that allowed the use of electronic ballot boxes and printed votes resulted in Maduro's victory, recognized by the National Electoral Council, but confirmed by the opposition and the European Union.
According to the results obtained, the current and future president of Venezuela would have won with more than 50% of the votes, as announced by the National Electoral Council (CNE). However, these results were never confirmed through the electoral records, responsible for detailing the exact number of votes obtained.
The opposition published a website where voters could check voting records, indicating 70% of the votes for Edmundo González. Following this action, the Venezuelan Public Ministry began an investigation against González for an electoral crime.
Summoned three times to give testimony about the irregular publication of the minutes and not appearing, the opponent took refuge in Spain at the beginning of September, shortly after having an arrest warrant issued.
In the midst of this political war, several opponents of the Chavista government were arrested, totaling 2,400 arrests. In addition, 24 people died as a result of the conflicts that occurred after the July 28 election.
