“Maestro”, new film by Bradley Cooper, gets new images

Last Monday (28), Vanity Fair magazine published new images from the new Netflix film “Maestro”. The new images show Bradley Cooper, also the film's director, and Carey Mulligan starring.

The film

“Maestro” tells the story of Leonard Bernstein, composer, pianist and one of the most important musicians in the United States in the 20th century. Bernstein, who will be played by Bradley Cooper, composed the music for renowned Broadway musicals, such as “West Side Story” , “Peter Pan” and “Candice”. Furthermore, the musician was the principal conductor of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra for 18 years.

The maestro's main goals were to bring classical music closer to a more popular style at the time, as a way of popularizing the art among younger people. He died in 1990, 5 days after announcing his retirement, from a heart attack resulting from lung cancer.

While Bradley Cooper will play the musician, Carey Mulligan will play the conductor's wife, Felicia Montealegre Cohn Bernstein.

The film should focus on the romantic story of Bernstein and Felicia and, according to the synopsis, will be “A love letter to life and art, 'Maestro', at its core, is an emotionally epic portrait of family and love“.

Praise from the family

Vanity Fair also published an interview with Jamie Bernstein, the musician's daughter, in which she praises Cooper's dedication and performance, comparing Cooper's energy with that of his father, which, in her opinion, made him perfect for the role.

This will be Bradley Cooper's second production as director. The first was the hit “A Star Is Born”, from 2018, also with a musical theme. Cooper also wrote the script alongside Josh Singer (“Spotlight”).

The film's cast will also include Maya Hawke (“Stranger Things”), Matt Bomer (“American Horror Story”), Michael Urie (“Ugly Betty”) and Jeremy Strong (“Succession”).

The film is scheduled to premiere on September 2nd on Netflix.
