Hollywood star Margot Robbie has recently launched her own gin brand in the UK. Dubbed ‘Papa Salt’, the company has already caught the attention of industry insiders and was launched in partnership with her husband Tom Ackerley, as well as business partners Charlie Maas, Josey McNamara and Regan Riskas.
It is worth noting that the brand had already been operating in Australia for 12 months; in fact, it sold four times the volume projected for the period. With her husband, Robbie also owns “LuckyChap”, a film production company that has been consistently profitable since its founding. The idea is to make “Papa Salt” a billion-dollar company.
Expert opinion
The choice of the United Kingdom as a “home” is strategic. The country is experiencing growth in the sector. Colin McKenzie, client director at experiential marketing agency Gradient and an expert on the alcoholic beverages market, highlighted that (via Forbes) “The UK, being the leading gin market in terms of value, made sense as the next step for Papa Salt.”.
He also explained the need to establish itself in a strong market so that, in the future, the company can reach countries where the sector is emerging. McKenzie believes that the actress's goal of establishing a prominent brand is possible (via Forbes):
“With hard work, the right strategies and time, there is no reason why a Margot Robbie-owned gin brand could not be worth $500 million or more in the future.”.

Margot Robbie
The 34-year-old actress is one of the most famous in the world. She has already received two Oscar nominations and has a string of notable roles. In 2023, she starred in “Barbie”, the year's global box office champion. In an interview with the “Times” newspaper in June, Robbie revealed positive aspects of her new experience:
“It’s been really refreshing… Everything feels so much more straightforward, it’s easier to predict things. You can put it into a spreadsheet in a way that you can’t with a movie idea.”
Robbie's fame should be a differentiator for the brand, since there is greater ease in factors such as exposure and public relations. There is also the possibility of “Papa Salt” appearing in future “LuckyChap” productions, further promoting its products.
