Mark Ruffalo and Emma Stone return to the big screen in Poor Things

The new film by Yorgos Lanthimos – director of “The Favourite” – brings back to the big screen, to the delight of his fans, actor Mark Ruffalo and Emma Stone. The news was released this Friday (21) by Variety magazine. Poor Things – Poor Things in free translation – still without a title in Portuguese, it promises to be an intriguing fiction that will involve the public.

Ruffalo makes his directorial debut andTo date, it has not been announced which role she will take on, however, Emma is confirmed as Bella Baxter.

Bella is actually Victoria Blessington, who commits suicide (by drowning) to escape abuse by her husband, General Sir Aubrey Blessington. However, a surgeon resurrects her by removing the brain of the fetus she was carrying and placing it in her skull, giving the resurrected Bella the mental age and faculties of a child. She becomes engaged to a Glasgow doctor named Archibald McCandless and embarks on a whirlwind adventure across Europe. As Bella's brain matures, she begins to develop a social conscience, but all her progress is threatened when she is recognized as Victoria by her lawful husband.

Based on the immortalized story of “Frankenstein”, the film will be set in the Victorian era, with the plot being the novel written by the Scottish Alasdair Gray. The cast also includes Willem Dafoe and actor Ramy Youssef, who are still in negotiations.

Written by Tony McNamara – reprising his partnership with Lanthimos after “The Favourite” – the tale of love, discovery and scientific daring is described as a “hilarious political allegory” in addition to “a provocative duel between men's desires and women's independence“.

The production will be made later this year by Element Pictures together with Film4 and Searchlight Pictures and its premiere, there is no set date..
