Massive Israeli air strike hits suburb south of Beirut

This Sunday (24), a suburb in the south of Beirut was enveloped in dense smoke after being the target of an aerial bombardment carried out by Israel. So far, there is no confirmed information about victims or injuries.

Earlier, the Lebanese army reported that an Israeli strike hit a military installation in the town of Al-Amiriya, located on the road between Al-Qalila and Tire in southern Lebanon. The attack resulted in the death of one soldier and left 18 others injured, some seriously.

The bombing of Beirut occurred shortly after Lebanon fired hundreds of rockets that hit several areas of Israel this Sunday morning.

In a statement, Lebanon's interim prime minister, Najib Mikati, said that Israel sent “a clear and aggressive message, demonstrating opposition to any effort to establish a ceasefire, reinforce the presence of the Lebanese army in the south and comply with UN resolution 1701”.

Also on Sunday, the head of European Union foreign policy requested that efforts be intensified to pressure both the Israeli government and Hezbollah in Lebanon to accept the truce agreement proposed by the United States.
