Mauro Cid has his arrest warrant canceled after his hearing

This Thursday (21), Jair Bolsonaro's former aide-de-camp, Mauro Cid, prepared to appear before the Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Alexandre de Moraes. Cid spent the moment before the hearing organizing his information.

Cid was afraid of being arrested after the custody hearing. This was evidenced by the fact that he packed some clothes into a suitcase in case he went to prison for not obeying the terms of the plea bargain.

The Attorney General's Office (PGR) wanted Cid to be detained again, but this time on charges of omitting information when he participated in the denunciation of former minister Braga Netto and the plan made by the military in 2022 to assassinate Lula, Moraes and Geraldo Alckmin.

Cid was not called to give a statement to the Federal Police. Moraes summoned him directly to a custody hearing where he would testify. This was a session for important decisions: whether the plea bargain would be maintained or discarded, and whether prison would be determined or not. Despite it seeming like a no-win situation, Cid ended the plea bargain and maintained his provisional freedom.

Investigators said that Cid told new details about Braga Netto's participation and proved that he had no part in the murder plan, as Braga Netto would host the meeting to discuss the plan at his home on November 12, 2022, but the ex -minister asked Cid to leave before the meeting went deeper. Cid revealed that he was at the meeting for half an hour, showing the departure and return times to Palácio do Planalto to prove his statement.

The lieutenant did not report anything new, according to investigators, but provided good details to advance the investigation. In view of the new facts, Moraes granted additional status to the plea bargain and, as a result, the PGR withdrew the arrest request.

Braga Netto's involvement

Braga Netto is suspected of allegedly acting as a link between Bolsonaro and coup camps. The PF is still looking for more important details, but significant evidence would be a public video where Braga Netto revives coup plotters after the defeat of the ticket with which he and Bolsonaro participated in the 2022 elections.

From now on, it is up to the PGR to decide whether to report those who were investigated, as the indictments have been completed. Cid may receive a summons from the Public Prosecutor's Office if information requires clarification, if the decision requires it. The official Federal Police report on the case exceeds more than 800 pages, showing that this will not be resolved until the end of 2024.

The Attorney General of the Republic, Paulo Gonet, and his team say they will commit to thoroughness when reviewing the case.
