Mbappé faces PSG in UEFA court over multi-million dollar debt

Mbappé, currently playing for Real Madrid in Spain, took the dispute over an outstanding debt with PSG, his former club, to the legal committee of the French Professional Football League (LFP) and to UEFA, through the French Football Federation (FFF).

The measure, taken this Tuesday (20), aims to ensure that the athlete receives the accumulated amounts of the last third of a signing bonus from last February, the last three salaries of the contract and, also, an “ethical bonus”, relating to this period, totaling around €55 million, which in reais, would be something around 330 million.

With his contract ending in June, the 25-year-old striker notified the French club about the debt, estimated at that time at €100 million, according to French newspapers such as “L'Équipe”, “Le Parisien” and radio station “RMC Sport.

Mbappé demanded payment of his wages and fines for late payments, in addition to the bonuses he was entitled to.

The case, which remains open to this day, could cause major problems for PSG, who, in addition to having to pay the exorbitant amount, risk being unable to make any signings until everything is resolved.

The complete case

French newspapers and sports outlets were already predicting trouble on the horizon, even before Mbappé's deal with Real Madrid and his non-renewal with PSG. They were already speculating that Paris Saint-Germain would not honor its debt to the striker.

The reason for this speculation of future confusion came from events that preceded these. In the 2022/2023 pre-season, the star did not go with the team to Asia, after informing the club that he would not renew his contract, with an extension until 2025.

Some time later, PSG and the player reached a reinstatement agreement, where Mbappé would give up the amount of €55 million. However, according to the newspaper “L'Équipe”, nothing was signed, rendering the agreement invalid, leaving the original contract with full legal validity.

PSG told French newspapers that negotiations would continue, while the French idol does not intend to give up what is rightfully his.
