Medical societies ask Anvisa to ban manipulated hormonal implants
– how to remain healthy, health related news, latest symptoms and treatments.
Amid concerns about public health, several medical societies sent a formal request to Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency) to prohibit the prescription and sale of hormonal implants, known as “Beauty Chip”, manipulated by pharmacies. The request occurred after the identification of health problems in patients who used these products.
Increase in reported cases
According to data collected in a notification system created by medical entities, to date, more than 257 cases of complications related to the use of hormones have been recorded in less than two months. Of these, almost half were related to the use of hormonal implants. Reported complications include severe side effects, such as metabolic changes, cardiovascular problems, thrombosis and psychiatric conditions.
The notification system was an initiative by medical societies themselves to monitor the adverse effects of the use of hormones, especially in a scenario where these products are widely sold, often without proper regulation.
Risks associated with manipulated implants
Hormonal implants are subcutaneous devices that gradually release hormones into the body. Although this hormone replacement therapy is widely used to treat conditions such as menopause, endometriosis and contraception, many experts warn of the risks of handling it in pharmacies.

According to the Brazilian Society of Endocrinology and Metabology (SBEM), manipulated implants need more studies to prove their safety and effectiveness. Furthermore, there is growing concern about the lack of standardization in production, which can lead to the consumption of inadequate doses and unpredictable consequences for patients.
Compounding pharmacies, in turn, claim that they follow current regulations and that the products are prepared under medical supervision. However, medical societies argue that control is insufficient and that indiscriminate marketing could put the health of thousands of people at risk.
Anvisa has not yet officially commented on the request, but the topic has already generated debate among doctors, pharmacists and sector representatives. Meanwhile, experts recommend that patients avoid the use of manipulated hormonal implants and that they consult qualified professionals before starting any treatment.hormonal therapy.
