Mike Flanagan creator of “Midnight Mass” signs contract with Prime Video, leaving Netflix

A popular name among lovers of the modern horror segment, Mike Flanagan, has become popular in recent years after creating and directing the series “Midnight Mass”, released on Netflix streaming. According to the website Variety, the producer has just signed a new contract with Prime Video, leaving Netflix.

Mike's collaborator, Trevor Macy, also signed a deal with Amazon through the duo's production company, Intrepid Pictures. Flanagan and Macy told Variety:

“Amazon is a studio we've long admired (…) Their commitment to engaging in innovative series and content aligns with the spirit of what we've built at Intrepid. We look forward to working with the entire Amazon team as we bring our brand of genre production to the service and audiences around the world,” said the duo.

The production company Intrepid still has at least one project launched by Netflix ahead of it, the limited series “The Fall of the House of Usher”, which does not yet have a release date. It will be inspired by some works by horror master Edgar Allan Poe, probably with Flanagan participating in the script, and directing at least four of the eight episodes. Director Michael Fimognari — from To All the Boys — will sign the remaining episodes.

The production's release date has not yet been announced, but Mike Flanagan revealed on his Twitter that filming begins next week. So far, Netflix has not commented on the director's departure from its platform.

The director's last works for streaming were successful with the public, series such as “The Haunting of Hill House”, “The Midnight Club” and “The Haunting of Bly Mansion” are some of the producer's most recent works.
