Mila Moreira dies at age 75

Actress Mila Moreira passed away at the age of 75. The artist was hospitalized at the Copa Star hospital in Rio de Janeiro. The hospital confirmed her death. “CopaStar Hospital regrets the death of patient Mila Moreira in the early hours of this Monday (06) and expresses its solidarity with the family and friends for this irreparable loss. The hospital also informs that it does not have the family's authorization to disclose further details”.

Marilda Alves Moreira da Silva, better known as Mila, began her artistic career in the 1960s as a model, and in 1979 she made her debut in soap operas acting in Marrom Glacê, on Globo, playing Érica. The actress had appearances in about 30 soap operas and miniseries.

Mila said in an interview with Vídeo Show that she suffered prejudice due to her debut in soap operas. “At the time, it wasn't common to have a model on television, so of course, initially there was prejudice. Everyone was waiting to criticize her. The dirty looks were more because she was someone out of class. It was like today, people still think you're stealing other people's work. You study to be an actress and someone comes along and just because she's pretty and fashionable becomes an actress.”it says.

Despite having been a model, the actress said she didn’t like being called that. “I always play a wealthy character, but it doesn’t bother me. I get more upset when people say I’m an ex-model. Do you know how long it’s been since I’ve walked on a runway? 37 years! I was a model for 11, 12 years and I have to carry that around for the rest of my life. I know how to play poor, but they won’t let me. I look rich, but I’ve never been that,” she said.

But, thanks to Mila's success, soap operas began to accept models in their casts and actors and actresses such as Cauã Reymond, Reynaldo Gianecchini, Luma de Oliveira, Camila Queiroz and Malvino Salvador emerged.
