Miley Cyrus' mother talks about divorce and marijuana use after a troubled period in her life

Letícia Cyrus, mother of the recent winner of the Grammy, Miley Cyrus, and ex-wife of “old town road” hitmaker Billy Ray Cyrus, shared intimate details of her life in a recent podcast appearance Call Her Daddy. During the conversation, she opened up about the end of her marriage and revealed details about the use of recreational cannabis, influenced by her daughter.

Facing fears and challenges

Tish, Leticia's nickname, commented on her insecurities and fears: “My two biggest fears in life were being alone and losing my mother.“, she revealed. The businesswoman suffered a lot from the global COVID-19 pandemic, as during this period she had to face her fears simultaneously.

Tish described a period of intense psychological breakdown following the loss of her mother in 2020 and separation in 2022. “It was the worst thing, it wasn't good. I just pushed the mom thing under the rug, and then came the divorce thing“, he shared on the North American podcast.

She detailed her struggle to cope, including difficulty eating, sleeping and incessant crying. The situation became so challenging that she even begged a doctor to be admitted to a psychiatric hospital, thinking that this could solve her emotional problems.

Transformation after a complicated period and new perspectives

However, gradually, Leticia began to find a new perspective on life. “Being alone and suddenly having the weight of the world off my shoulders and being able to breathe“, she described. She mentioned therapeutic activities, such as smoking marijuana, gardening, and swimming naked in her pool, which proved to be extremely transformative.

Tish admitted that she initially viewed marijuana as a harmful drug and, as a Christian woman, thought it was “the devil's drug,” but changed her perception. After a 2014 accident in which she escaped a burning tour bus, her daughter Miley suggested using the substance to help her sleep. Now, she describes herself as a “Christian who loves marijuana.”

New chapter and family unity

Tish is currently married to Dominic Purcell, known for playing Lincoln Burrows in the series 'Prison Break', and Miley was her bridesmaid at the wedding, which took place last year (2023). Although Tish has found new love and stability, her relationship with Billy Ray remains in the spotlight. Miley's absence from her father's remarriage ceremony, just four months after their divorce, adds an additional layer of complexity to the family dynamics.
