More floods expected in Australia

Sydney is gearing up for more heavy rain and flooding in the coming days. The Australian weather agency issued a serious warning on Monday.

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison says the flooding in recent days is the worst on record.

There was already 120 millimeters of precipitation on Monday and that became even more on Tuesday with 150 millimeters. The states of New South Wales and Queensland have been particularly affected by the storm, which has lasted for almost two weeks.

Residents are frustrated with the slow response. A resident told Australian broadcaster ABC News that they were unable to get food and fuel for a week.

There was also no communication, because many cities still have no electricity and internet.

New South Wales Prime Minister Dominic Perrottet said the recovery could take years. About two thousand houses have become uninhabitable.
