Multishow elects Marília Mendonça as Singer of the Year

Multishow channel used its social media to announce the winner of the Singer of the Year category and in a gesture of sisterhood Anitta, IZA, Ivete Sangalo, Luísa Sonza and the channel elected Marília Mendonça as the winner. Voting for this category was closed as a way to honor the queen of suffering.

In a note published on the cable channel's Instagram, they announced Marília as the big winner in the category “'You became a longing here at home' and we couldn't thank you any differently for everything you represent for Brazilian music. Marília Mendonça is our Singer of the Year and voting for the category at #PrêmioMultishow 2021 has been canceled.”

The note goes on to say that Marília left an important legacy in Brazilian music and that she will receive a tribute at this year's awards ceremony. “Marília and her legacy will be remembered at this year’s ceremony. And here, we will continue to applaud and celebrate her talent and her story.”concludes the publication.

The Multishow Awards will take place on December 8th in Rio de Janeiro and will honor the greatest names in Brazilian music. The presentation will be hosted by Tatá Werneck and singer IZA. The awards ceremony will be broadcast on the Multishow channel.

Marília Mendonça has already won in other categories of the Multishow award. In 2018 and 2019, she won the Show of the Year category and in 2020, she took home the award for Best Live of the Year. For those who don't remember, the live show in question took place in May 2020, at the height of the coronavirus pandemic, and was elected the most-watched musical live show in the history of YouTube, with 3.3 million simultaneous views.

The singer died at the age of 26, last Friday (5) after a plane crash in Minas Gerais where she was going to perform a show in the city of Caratinga. The wake took place on Saturday (6) in Goiânia and was open to the public. The burial took place on the same day at the Parque Memorial cemetery and was closed to family and friends.
