Music festival – The music festival is back after two years of restrictions due to the pandemic. Lille City Hall has announced a ban on outdoor amplified sounds, and other restrictions for this special evening. The municipality wishes to highlight amateur practices, and especially to avoid overflows.

he people of Lille who dreamed of walking in the streets to the sound of DJs and speakers this Tuesday, June 21 for the music festival may be disappointed. The municipality has indeed announced that there will be limits, to the despair of some Lillois.

This year, to be able to perform in the streets of the northern city, you will have to sing without a microphone, play without an amplifier and mix without a mixer.

No enclosures will be allowed outdoors, they will only be tolerated inside cafes, bars and restaurants. In order to “give pride of place to amateur practices, only acoustic music will be allowed on public roads”, specifies the municipality.

But above all, the town hall wants to avoid “the rave party looks” of previous years by limiting any kind of overflow. Other measures have therefore been put in place.

Bars, cafes and restaurants will be able to stay open until 2 a.m. and close their terraces at midnight, compared to 11 p.m. Nevertheless, they will be forbidden to extend their terrace.

A decision that makes disappointed

Residents demanding “a real music festival 2022” have launched an online petition, which exceeded 1,000 signatures on Tuesday. “After the Covid period, culture is taking another hit on the head,” writes its author. “Gone are the amateur bands who were looking forward to this day to spread their art in complete freedom. Gone is the wandering public from group to group looking for the nugget that corresponds (or not) to their style.

Gone are the bars and clubs that could attract new people in this way,” he regrets. The groups, who had the objective of performing on June 21, will then have to stay at home, where to connect their equipment inside the bars willing to welcome them.
