Natalie Portman revives Dior’s historic dress at the Cannes Film Festival
Natalie Portman did not disappoint those waiting for her on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival. The actress stole the show when she arrived for the film’s premiere. May December on a historical Dior model.
The dress carries the aura of haute couture autumn/winter 1949. 74 years ago, the French fashion house launched the line milieu du sieclewhich means Middle of the Century in Portuguese.

Many designs in the collection are named after Roman gods. The model that Natalie Portman he wore is called Junon, a tribute to the queen of Olympus, wife of Jupiter and goddess related to fertility and marriage. The deity also names the month of June.
The majesty of petals in embroidered tulle
Natalie Portman’s homage to the original dress recreates the embroidered tulle petals, which brings a lot of elegance and style to the composition.
On the original model, everything was hand-embroidered by maison Rebé, from Christian Dior’s friends Réné and Andrée Bégué.
As in many creations by the French luxury house, the dress had a brother. Venus was a model in a gray tone typical of the 18th century and brought references to the work birth of venus (1485), by Botticelli, with sequins and pearls reminiscent of shells and waves.
Junon, darling of celebrities in the middle of the 20th century
The charm of embroidered tulle petals won the famous from the end of the 1940s. Model Alla Ilchun, Dior’s muse and one of the most fashionable women of that time, fit like a glove in the dress.
Fellow model Ann Theophane “Theo” Graham became Junon iconic when posed for the lens of Richard Avedon. Socialite Claire Poe Newman liked the dress so much that she wore it several times, such as Princess Grace Kelly’s engagement and a trip to Saint Moritz.
Now, Natalie Portman brings a classic Dior revisitation into the first half of the 21st century. She gained the spotlight by bringing Junon back to the scene among the current gods of the seventh art.
