Nations League

The Dutch volleyball players suffered their fourth consecutive defeat in the Nations League on Thursday. The Dutch team went down in three sets against reigning world champion Poland in Rimini, Italy.

The Netherlands could still have resisted Olympic champion Brazil on Wednesday, but Poland proved a size too big for the team of national coach Roberto Piazza. The Dutch only managed to make it 1-0 in the first set, but always trailed in the second (17-25) and third set (16-25).

Star player and top scorer Nimir Abdelaziz got a rest from Piazza and played only a few points. On Friday, the Netherlands will take on Bulgaria, which, like the Dutch, has won only one of its first eight Nations League games.

The Netherlands is still in the penultimate place in the League due to the loss against Poland. The volleyball players won so far only from Germany.

The 16 best countries in the world compete in the Nations League. The Dutch national team, which will participate in the prestigious competition for the first time since 2017, will play seven more group games in Rimini until 27 June. Because there is no promotion and relegation scheme this year due to the corona pandemic, the Dutch team is also assured of participation in 2022.
