Nba playoffs – LeBron James wants to become the owner of an NBA team, the basketball player said in an episode of the HBO series The Shop. James wants to settle with his own club in Las Vegas.
“I want to buy a team, that’s for sure. A team in Vegas, to be precise,” says 37-year-old James firmly in an excerpt of the episode that comes online on Friday.
James, nicknamed ‘King James’, currently plays in the NBA for Los Angeles Lakers, with which he became champion in 2020. Previously, the American captured the title with Miami Heat (2012 and 2013) and Cleveland Cavaliers (2016).
The American business magazine Forbes recently revealed that James is the first active basketball player who can call himself a billionaire. The basketball player, who also acts and is active in the business world, has an estimated net worth of more than 1 billion dollars (about 942 million euros), according to Forbes.
As a partner of the Fenway Sports Group, James is co-owner of, among others, the American baseball club Boston Red Sox. In that case, he would not be the only former basketball player with a club in the NBA: Michael Jordan, six-time NBA champion, owns Charlotte Hornets.
The NBA now consists of thirty teams. Rumors that clubs from Seattle and Las Vegas will be added were recently refuted by NBA commissioner Adam Silver. James could also buy an existing team and move to the gambling town in the desert.
