NBC to reboot sci-fi series 'Quantum Leap'

A classic from the 1990s, the series known in Brazil as Setbacks became a landmark for science fiction productions and now has a reboot organized by NBC. Created by Don Bellisario, thirty years ago the characters jumped through time and began five seasons with various adventures.

Starring Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell, the series tells the story of a journey in a time machine that takes the character Sam to the future. The characters' goal was to alter time to improve the lives of people from other eras. Passing through various bodies, they had to complete missions alongside a time-observing hologram, while waiting for a jump that would take them back home.

Now, more than three decades after the series premiered, NBC is organizing a reboot. According to Deadline, Don Belisario (creator of the series) and Deborah Pratt (narrator of the episodes) will be back in a pilot project that is in development. The pilot episode was commissioned by the network and produced by Steven Lilien, Bryan Wynbrandt and Martin Gero, producers known for works such as La Brea and Blindspot.

As for the cast's return, protagonist Scott Bakula may be in negotiations for a role. The actor has been featured in several productions and awards since the series and has New Orleans as one of his most recent works. Other names, however, will not be able to be present.

Dean Stockwell, who played Al Calavicci, the hologram guardian of the timeline, passed away last year at the age of 85. With over 70 years of acting, in addition to Setbackshe had several other notable roles and awards throughout his career, such as the film In an affair with the mafia (1988) and the Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
