Through Sotheby's, located in Geneva, Switzerland, a diamond necklace, valued at 2.8 million dollars, was auctioned to a series of select individuals, this Monday (11).
In addition to being extremely luxurious, with its detailed and delicate structure, featuring 300 carats of precious material, the accessory also had historical antecedents that linked it to the fall of Marie Antoinette, former monarch of France and notorious figure in the country's history, and the monarchy from England.
The jewel itself and its history
Present in the homes of important members of an ancient society, the necklace comes from the collection of the Marquises of Anglesey and had several connections from the highest social classes.

Worn by Marjorie Paget, Marchioness of Anglesey, at the coronation of King George VI and, later, her daughter-in-law, at the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, the jewel was also present in the Queen Marie Antoinette scandal known as “The Affair of the Diamond Necklace”. when it was sold.
One person, by physically assimilating with Antoinette, pretended to be herself and obtained the accessory, postponing payment. When charged by the jewelers, Maria denied involvement and knowledge of the acquisition of the jewelry, which generated a series of revolts.
Thus, the piece disappeared and was only rediscovered in 1960 by an Asian historical collector who gained some knowledge of the item's condition and its importance.
How is the jewelry now?
Currently, with the auction taking place, many people from the highest classes were curious about the material and enchanted by it, generating a lot of demand for the object that had not been shown to the public for over 50 years.
