Netflix Rebalances Price and Brazil Is Left Out

After the crisis with the criticism they received for changes, Netflix announced a reduction in the price of its plans worldwide. Brazil is not included.

Netflix has been receiving harsh criticism from its subscribers for the changes it has made in recent years, such as increasing the price of plans, banning password sharing, the emergence of another plan that allows commercials while using Netflix and the cancellation of series produced by it.

Aiming to combat criticism, Netflix announced a reduction in the price of plans in some countries in the Middle East, Latin America, Sub-Saharan Africa, Eastern Europe and parts of Asia.

For example:

• The basic plan will decrease by 13% in the Philippines, with a reduction of almost 50% elsewhere;
• The premium plan will decrease between 17% and 43% in several countries, Philippines, Vietnam and Malaysia did not receive discounts on this plan;
• Mobile-focused plans also received a discount of between 25% and 33%, India, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam, Pakistan and Nigeria did not receive a discount on these plans.

It is expected that 5% of Netflix's approximately 200 million subscribers will benefit from the discount.

During the investor conference, Netflix COO Greg Peters said:

“We will look at the metrics that our members are giving us and telling us and look at the opportunities (…) And then we will turn around and we will take the opportunity to ask them to pay a little more, so that we can maintain the virtuous circle and really invest back in incredible content and stories.”

However, it appears that this reduction will not reach Brazil. The information came from the OMELETE website, which contacted Netflix about the reduction, and received a response that the plans did not arrive in Brazil and that:

“Plan prices are, and have always been, specific to each country.”
