New Russian offensive expected, Western Ukraine bombed
Russia continues to bomb Ukrainian airports and cities. This included cities on Friday that had so far remained relatively unaffected. Meanwhile, the Russian troops are again seeking position around Kiev. A new attack on the capital seems to be a matter of time.
The developments follow each other in rapid succession. We therefore list the most recent events for you several times a day. Subscribe to the “Ukraine Update” tag to get notified when we post another such overview.
Russian bombing continues to descend on Ukrainian cities. Western Lutsk and central Dnipro were first hit by attacks.
Airports were also bombed in western Ukraine, including in Lutsk and Ivano-Frankivsk. Both military and civilian airfields would have been affected.

Due to the bombings, the evacuation of civilians was again difficult. In Izyum, near Kharkov, the evacuations had to be stopped altogether, according to the regional governor. Also in Mariupol people were trapped by bombings.
Some 100,000 people were evacuated from Sumy, Enerhodar and the Kiev area in recent days, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said.
The number of Ukrainians who have since fled the country rose to more than 2.5 million, according to the United Nations.
The advance of Russia still seems to be slow. In the vicinity of Kiev, the troops were repositioned.
However, the Russian troops claimed that they had taken the southern city of Volnovakha. That city is close to Mariupol, which has been badly hit in recent days and is now surrounded.
New offensives in Ukraine are expected in the coming days. Kiev is getting ready for a Russian storming.
The consequences of the war are also becoming increasingly visible on the internet. For example, YouTube worldwide immediately blocks channels that have ties to russian state-funded media. The reason for this is the denial or watering down of violent actions by the Russian army in Ukraine.
For the same reason, Twitter previously deleted messages from Russian accounts and also shows tweets from Belarusian state media less often.
Facebook and Instagram are temporarily relaxing the rules around inciting hatred against Russia.
In response, Russia will block access to Instagram from March 14, regulator Roskomnadzor reported.
