New Series Reveals More Details

After the Warner Bros. announce this week that it has ordered a new series for the Game of Thrones franchise, this time based on the book “The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms”the author George R. R. Martin shared some details about the production on his blog.

“A Kight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight” (The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Knight Errant)as the series was called, will be based on the book of the same name that tells stories from Westeros 90 years before the events of “A Song of Ice and Fire”.

The series is based on the first book in a complementary series in the universe of “A Song of Ice and Fire”call “The Tales of Dunk and Egg”. To date, three have already been launched: “The Walking Knight” (1998), “The Sworn Sword” (2003) and “The Mysterious Knight” (2010). The three became a collection called “The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms”launched in 2015.

On his personal blog, George R. R. Martin told some details about the production and the choice of the title. For Martin, any title named after the duo Dunk and Egg would sound like a comedy. According to the author, this is the opposite of what he and Warner want in this new adaptation.

“I love Dunk and I love Egg”he said on his blog. “And I know fans refer to my novels as 'The Dunk & Egg Stories,' but there are millions of people out there who don't know the stories and the title needs to intrigue them too. If you don't know the characters, Dunk & Egg sounds like a sitcom: Laverne & Shirley, Abbott & Costello, Beavis & Butthead. So no, we want 'knight' in the title, because chivalry and chivalry are central to the themes of these stories.”

Regarding the adaptation, Martin – who is also a screenwriter – spoke a little about the pilot script.

“The pilot script is already written and I think it's fantastic”he said. “Ira has assembled a small but very talented team, and they are already at work, building on the foundations laid last year at previous creative summits… and, of course, the original soap opera.”he concluded, referring to the Ira Parkerone of the screenwriters. The team also has Ryan Condal and Vince Gerardis.

Optimistically, George RR Martin says that if the production “does well”, he is hopeful that the other stories will also be adapted over the years.

This is not the first series derived from the Game of Thrones universe. “House of the Dragon”a spin-off about the Targaryen family, now with the second season in production, is a success. Others that are under development are: “Ten Thousand Ships” (Ten Thousand Ships)based on the story of the warrior queen Nymeria; “The Sea Snake” (The Sea Serpent)about the character Lord Corlys Velaryon, who appears in “House of the Dragon”; “The Golden Empire of Yi Ti” (The Golden Empire of Yi Ti)an animation about one of the regions of Essos; and, finally, a series about the beloved Jon Snow, one of the main characters of Game of Thrones – with no possible title yet announced.

“The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Knight Errant” It is already in production, but there is no release date or cast yet.
