Nintendo expects to sell fewer copies of Switch next year, Nintendo expects to sell a lot fewer Switch consoles this year than last year, the Japanese game console company reported Tuesday morning at the announcement of its annual figures.
Nintendo was able to make fewer game consoles in the past year due to the persistent chip shortage. That is why the expectation has already been adjusted downwards from 24 million to 23 million copies sold. That goal was narrowly achieved with 23.06 million copies. In the current year, Nintendo expects to sell 21 million Switch consoles.
The Pokémon games remain hits for Nintendo. The Pokémon Arceus, released in January, has sold 12.6 million units so far.
The best-selling Pokémon games on the Switch are Pokémon Sword and Shield. Of these, 24.3 million copies have now been sold.
The best-selling Switch game remains Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (45.3 million), followed by Animal Crossing: New Horizons (38.6 million) and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (28.2 million).
Nintendo’s revenue was slightly lower than a year earlier because it sold less than during the global lockdowns. Nintendo recorded a turnover of 1.7 trillion yen (12.8 billion euros) in the last broken financial year, which ran until the end of March. This is nearly 4 percent less than one year previously.
Net profit fell by nearly 1 percent to 3.5 billion euros. Nintendo thinks that sales and profits will decline a bit further this year.
