The Nintendo Switch is designed for a variety of games, including titles that require a stable internet connection to play. But what can you do to get back to gaming when your console won’t connect to Wi-Fi?

Simple tips can solve the problem, ranging from a test to analyze the device's configuration to restarting the device. Check out more information below.

How to fix the connection problem on Nintendo Switch

Check the status of your network connection

The first step is to always check if there are any problems with your internet network. To do this, use other devices (such as your cell phone or PC) to check if they are also having problems connecting; then, go to your modem and router and check if the lights are on correctly.

If necessary, unplug your internet devices and wait a minute before reconnecting them; then check that the wires are securely connected.

Check the network status of Nintendo Switch

The second step is to check if Nintendo's servers are down, although the likelihood of this happening is very unlikely. This check is important because if the problem is the servers, then there is nothing you can do but wait for the signal interruption to be fixed.

To check this possibility, you can visit the official Nintendo website that shows the service status (click here) and the Is The Service Down website, which offers a similar service. If there is a problem with the servers, this will be reported on both websites.

Examine the console settings

Just like with cell phones, the Nintendo Switch also has a series of network settings that, if activated, will not allow internet access.

The first thing to do is check whether you are within range of your Wi-Fi signal: depending on your internet plan and the distance you are from the modem and router, the problem may be that you are too far away from them; so move closer to the devices to have better signal reception.

Then, access the Nintendo Switch settings and check if airplane mode is activated, as this feature prevents the internet from being received on the device. To do this, go to Console Settings > Airplane Mode > Disable.

Then, check if the device is connected to the correct network, as you may have tried to connect to a neighbor's network. Go to Console Settings > Internet > Internet Settings > check if you are connected to the correct network.

Finally, update your console system. Go to Console Settings > Console > Console Update.

Restart the device

If none of the above worked, hold down the power button for three seconds, click “Shutdown Options,” and select “Restart.” Then click Console Settings > Internet > Test Connection.

If the connection test is unsuccessful, make a note of the error code that appears on the screen and contact Nintendo Customer Support for assistance.
