Olympique Lyon defender Jérôme Boateng appeared in court in Munich on Thursday. The 76-time Germany international is accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend, who is the mother of his twin daughters.

The 33-year-old Boateng is alleged to have intentionally caused bodily harm to his ex during an argument during a holiday in 2018. The defender, who left Bayern Munich this summer after a decade, denies that he injured his former girlfriend.

A ruling may follow on Thursday. If Boateng is found guilty, he could face up to five years in prison. join us on facebook

Boateng is known as one of Germany’s best defenders in recent years. In 2014 he became world champion as a basic player with ‘Die Mannschaft’ and he was also very successful at Bayern Munich. He picked up nine league titles and five DFB-Pokals with the club and in 2013 and 2020 the Champions League was captured.

Boateng’s contract with Bayern expired on June 1, after which he signed transfer-free with Olympique Lyon last week. As a result, he is still waiting for his debut for the team of coach Peter Bosz, who has started the season badly. Lyon are ninth in Ligue 1 with five points from four games.
