Orange – The Dutch national team can Wednesday night its best series since the period 2012-2013. Orange tries during the Nations League game in and with Wales for the eleventh time in a row to remain unbeaten.

The last time the players of the Dutch national team stepped off the field as losers was on June 27, 2021, in the eighth final match at the European Championship against the Czech Republic (0-2). After that game, national coach Frank de Boer made way for Louis van Gaal and the Orange team started an unbeaten series, which was extended to ten games on Friday evening in and against Belgium (1-4).

In that series, the Netherlands triumphed seven times and had to allow a draw only three times: against Norway (1-1) and Montenegro (2-2) in the World Cup qualification and against Germany (1-1) in a friendly context.

The last time the Orange team went ten times in a row without defeat was in 2014, also under Van Gaal. At the time, the series ended on September 4 of that year, when Italy proved too strong in a friendly with 2-0. The Dutch national team was then led by Guus Hiddink.

For the last time that the Netherlands came through more than ten international matches unbeaten, we have to go back to the period 2012-2013: between September 7, 2012 and November 19, 2013, the Orange did not even lose seventeen times in a row. In all those international matches, Van Gaal was in the dugout.

Thanks to the triumph in Belgium, the Netherlands leads the dance in group 4 of the highest division in the Nations League. Wales went down 2-1 at Poland during the opening round, but with the team of star player Gareth Bale last week everything was dominated by the decisive World Cup play-off against Ukraine. That game resulted in a 1-0 victory last Sunday, so Wales worked in good spirits towards the game against the Orange.

The match between Wales and the Netherlands will be played on Wednesday at the Cardiff City Stadium and starts at 20:45 (Dutch time). The referee on duty is the Swede Glenn Nyberg.
