Living legend of Brazilian samba, Zeca Pagodinho and guests took to the Sunset Stage, on Brazil Day, showing that samba is far from dead. On the penultimate day of the festival, the samba singer brought great hits, including “Vai Vadiar”, “Lamas nas Ruas” and “Seu Balancê”.
At the opening of the presentation, samba icons were honored on the screen, such as Monarco, Martinho da Vila, Paulinho da Viola, Arlindo Cruz, Dona Ivone Lara and Beth Carvalho, who passed away on April 30, 2019.
Successes that cross generations
In tribute to Beth, Zeca started the show singing “Camarão que Dorme a Onda Leva”, a song that gained notoriety in the singer's voice in 1983 and was composed by Zeca, Arlindo Cruz and Beto Sem Braço. Zeca and Beth met when she heard him sing at a samba circle in the Cacique de Ramos block.
The screens reflected paintings and images of favelas, bars and samba circles, as well as religious references, such as São Jorge, common in the singer's shows.
Diogo Nogueira was the first to share the stage with Zeca, and performed “Lamas nas Ruas”, the hit that was written by Zeca and Almir Guineto.
The audience went wild when Alcione entered the scene, singing “Multirão de Amor”.

In response to Zeca and the crowd's request, she also performed her anthem “Sufoco”, released in 1981. In 2024, Alcione celebrates 50 years of a brilliant career in the genre, being considered the lady of samba.
Xande de Pilares brought all her irreverence and animation when singing “Minha Fé” and “Patota de Cosme”. Samba singer and composer Jorge Aragão was present, showing all his experience, making the stage a true samba circle.
To close, Maria Rita enchanted everyone with her performance of the hits “Casal Sem Vergonha” and “Alto Lá”. At the end of the performance, the samba singers returned to the stage to sing “Coração em Desalinho” and “Deixa a Vida Me Levar” and were applauded by the public.
