Part Two” surpasses the first's major milestone

“Dune: Part Two” arrived in theaters on February 29th, promising to be a great work of science fiction. The anxiety behind the sequel directed by Denis Villeneuve seems to have been reflected not only by viewers, but also by Warner Bros. Discovery.

Nine days after its release in theaters, “Dune: Part Two” managed to surpass the box office of its predecessor's first week, earning, to date, US$ 111 million globally, while “Dune”, from 2021, grossed US$ 109 million.

By way of comparison, it wasn't such a far margin, but it's worth noting that when the first film was released, the coronavirus pandemic was still happening around the world, with health restrictions imposed on movie theaters and other commercial and cultural centers.

“Dune: Part Two” is also a success in Brazil

One week of showing “Dune: Part Two” has resulted, for now, in 580,000 spectators gathered in movie theaters across Brazil, totaling R$15 million in accumulated box office receipts.

About the film

The story revolves around Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), who finds himself divided by his thirst for revenge against the Harkonnens and the Imperium and the feeling that this would shape a holy war across the galaxy. “Dune: Part Two” is a direct sequel to the story completed by “Dune”, winner of six Oscars, showing the end of House Atreides due to the coup organized by the Imperium with the Harkonnens and with them once again taking control of Arrakis in the name of exploration valuable spice.

Directed by Denis Villeneuve and written by Spaihts, based on the novel by Frank Herbert, Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures produced the sequel. Returns for the second film the protagonists Timothée Chalamet (Wonka) Zendaya (Spider-Man: Homecoming), with Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible – Reckoning – Part 1), Josh Brolin (Avengers: Endgame), Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3), Stephen McKinley Henderson (Lady Bird: Time to Fly), Stellan Skarsgård (Mamma Mia!), Charlotte Rampling (45 Years) and Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men).

Austin Butler (Elvis), Florence Pugh (Black Widow), Christopher Walken (The Sniper) and Léa Seydoux (007: Operation Skyfall) are new characters from “Dune: Part Two”, now showing in theaters.
