“Pepa” is announced as the new coach of Cruzeiro

new coach of Cruzeiro – The Portuguese Pedro Miguel Marques da Costa Filipe O “pepa“, was announced as the new coach of Cruzeiro this Tuesday (21). He comes as a substitute for the Argentine Paulo Pezzolano dismissed after the elimination of the Fox for the America-MG in the semifinals of Mineiro Championship.

Pepa, has no experience with big clubs as a coach. In Portugal, he coached Paços de Ferreira in 2020/2021, winning fifth place, with 53 points, and ensuring qualification for the Conference League. Then he took over Vitória de Guimarães also for the Portuguese Championship and left the club with 48 points (13 wins, 9 draws and 12 defeats). Pepa was also a technical assistant at Tondela and had passages in the youth team at Benfica.

In his last spell as coach, Pepa was not so successful for Al-Tai, with 15 games, the coach averaged 1.73 goals per game, 6 wins and 9 losses for the Saudi club.

He brings his commission to Brazilian football, which is made up of the following professionals: Samuel Correia (assistant coach), Hugo Silva (assistant coach), Pedro Oliveira (physical trainer) and Pedro Azevedo (performance analyst).

Cruzeiro’s director of football, Pedro Martins, was one of those responsible for Pepa’s arrival and highlighted the coach’s style of play.

“Pedro (Pepa) is very professional. He has been studying Cruzeiro a lot, studying the squad a lot, even from a distance. We went into detail in the work he did at Passos and Vitória. This dedicated and intense style, with leadership power, is Cruzeiro’s bet for 2023. ” said Pedro Martins, fox’s football director.

The coach should arrive in Belo Horizonte next Thursday (23/03) and will have less than a month to adjust the team before official games for the Brazilian Championship and Copa do Brasil. Cruzeiro will face Corinthians, away from home between April 15th, 16th and 17th, the date is still uncertain as well as the time, as for the Copa do Brasil it will be able to debut on April 12th, against the opponent which advance will be defined by the tournament draw.
