Every week, on Space Gaze Programwe showed two astronomical images that stood out last week. And last week, we presented two more images from a series in which we will show astrophotographs produced here in Brazil, by Brazilians. Check them out:

(Credits: Rodrigo Maeda – Valparaiso, SP)

The first image shows the beauty of the Eagle Nebula or M16, an open star cluster surrounded by a dark nebula and gases that reflect the light of young, hot stars at its center. At the heart of the Eagle Nebula is a pillar-shaped nebular formation that concentrates a large amount of cosmic dust known as the “Pillars of Creation.” A true stellar nursery, full of cocoons where gravity is concentrating gases to give rise to new stars. The Eagle Nebula is located 7,000 light-years away, in the direction of the constellation Serpens.

The second image is a spectacular record of the Small Magellanic Cloud, an irregular satellite galaxy of the Milky Way located about 200,000 light-years away between the constellations of Tucan and Hydra. Astronomers believe that the Small Magellanic Cloud was a barred spiral galaxy that was deformed by the gravity of the Milky Way. This image highlights its various star-forming regions, which are nebulae of gas and dust that help generate some of the hundreds of millions of stars that make up the galaxy.
