Player Nikão speaks about his future at Athletico-PR

The player Nikão on loan from São Paulo is having an excellent time playing for the Athletico-PR team. In the last seven games, he scored five goals. With the desire not to renew his contract with the São Paulo club, the player will be available on the football market, as the tricolor also does not intend to make any proposal for Nikão to remain in the team.

The player's situation will probably only be defined at the end of the Brasileirão, which is when the club will define its situation in the Championship, but the club has already made it clear that it welcomes his stay in the team. With the competition coming to an end, Hurricane will have three extremely important rounds to play and move away from the relegation zone, thus guaranteeing its stay in Series A. In addition, Athletico is looking for a place to compete in the Copa Sudamericana in 2025.

Nikão demonstrated his interest in remaining at Hurricane and highlighted how much he identifies with the team.

Retrospect in the hurricane

After the arrival of Argentine coach Lucho González, Nikão started to have more space in the team and was able to demonstrate a great and important performance in the matches in which he played. With the change of coach, the midfielder was inserted back into the team, after facing problems with the former Uruguayan coach Martín Varini, during which the player was removed.

Between 2018 and 2021, Lucho and Nikão became teammates in the hurricane, where together they formed a successful duo, winning five titles, including two Copa Sudamericana titles, J.League/Conmebol (2019), Copa do Brasil (2019) and Campeonato Paranaense (2020). Nikão is considered one of the greatest phenomena in the club's history.

In his first spell at the club, between 2015 and 2021, he won six titles, where he played 314 matches, scored 49 goals and contributed 47 assists, including friendlies. The São Paulo team signed the player in 2022, and the following year he was loaned to Cruzeiro. Upon his return to the São Paulo tricolor in 2024, the midfielder ended up running out of space in the team, and in April he returned to the hurricane.

The 32-year-old player was revealed in Brasa-SP's youth categories.

Athletico's next challenge

After drawing with Bahia last Sunday (24), Hurricane faces the Fluminense team on Sunday (1) at the Ligga Arena. If they win, Rubro-Negro will reach 44 points, which could be enough for the club to avoid relegation and guarantee its stay in Series A of the Brazilian Championship.
