Polling stations are open

Some of the polling stations will be opened at 7.30 am on Monday for early voting for the municipal elections. This is possible in all municipalities, but not in all polling stations. Most of them don’t open until Wednesday, the ‘real’ election day.

Early train passengers in Harderwijk could already cast their vote from 6.00 am in the mobile polling station on the forecourt of the station (seen in the photo).

Nearly 13.6 million people in 334 municipalities are allowed to vote in municipal elections. Voters can go to about seventeen hundred places on Monday.

Early voting has been made possible due to the corona pandemic. People in fragile health can choose to cast their votes on Monday or Tuesday, as polling stations will be much quieter on those days than on Wednesday.

The polls close again at 9 p.m. After that, the ballot boxes containing the ballot papers remain closed. Polling station members do determine how many eligible voters have voted.

To do this, they count the valid voting passes and proxy certificates.

The municipality transports the ballot boxes, voting passes and powers of attorney to a safe place. The key of each ballot box is transported separately and the rest is always carried by at least two people.

The votes cast early on Monday and Tuesday will be counted during the daytime on Wednesday.

Vote for even more stations (Polling stations are open)

Polling stations at NS stations are open on Monday and Tuesday in twelve municipalities. Two of them are only open on one of these days and not on Wednesdays.

This applies to the polling stations at the stations Halfweg-Zwanenburg (only on Mondays) and Nieuw Vennep (only on Tuesdays).

On Wednesday there will be many more: then it is possible to vote on or at forty stations.

There are two polling stations at Hilversum and Utrecht Central stations.
