Reactions to the death of Lukoki, The Dutch football world has reacted with shock to the sudden death of Jody Lukoki. The former player of Ajax, SC Cambuur, PEC Zwolle and FC Twente was only 29 years old.

“PEC Zwolle has learned with dismay and sadness of the far too early death of former player Jody Lukoki. Lukoki will forever be remembered as the first goalscorer of PEC Zwolle in an official European duel,” write the ‘Blauwvingers’ Monday in a statement on the site.

Lukoki, who scored against Sparta Prague in the preliminary round of the Europa League, wore the PEC shirt in the 2014/2015 season. The fast winger was assured of a starting place and reached the final of the KNVB cup with the Zwolle team, which was lost 0-2 to FC Groningen.

The season before, Lukoki was also a base player at SC Cambuur. He scored twice for the club from Leeuwarden, in the duels with sc Heerenveen. “His two goals in the Frisian derby, both home and away, are engraved in the collective memory of the Cambuur supporters,” writes Cambuur in a reaction to his death.

Lukoki started his career at Ajax, where he also went through the youth academy. The speedy winger captured three national titles, but did not go beyond 35 games. In Amsterdam, Lukoki is best known for the way he played Tim de Cler through the legs in his debut match against Feyenoord in January 2011.

That season, Lukoki was stuck on two league matches. “No matter how small that number of duels was; the talent did indeed contribute to securing the thirtieth national title and the third star on the Ajax shirt,” writes the Eredivisie leader.
