Real Madrid loses to Villarreal on the comeback and sees the dream of the title becoming distant

The Spanish Championship is entering a crucial straight to define its champion. Real Madrid, current vice-leader, is leaving its biggest rival (Barcelona) ever closer to lifting the cup. Before the round began, the difference between the two was 12 points but could increase to 15 if Barça win their next match. That’s because this Saturday (08) the Madrid team received Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabéu and ended up defeated.

First time
In their domains, despite the defense having reserves, Real tried to impose their game even against a very organized Villarreal team and this was shown right at the beginning of the match. With his title attack trio, at the first opportunity in the 15th minute, the Brazilian Vinícius Jr. tried to get the corner of goalkeeper Pepe Reina but took too much.

Ten minutes later, Madrid’s attacking left flank proved to be the best weapon to clear the scoreboard. And so it happened, in yet another move by the Brazilian, Asensio even without an angle managed to finish and with the luck of defender Pau Torres ended up scoring an own goal.

After much exchange of chances between the two teams, a very important character appeared for Villarreal’s comeback, the Nigerian Chukwueze. His first chance was when he attacked the merengue defense and almost scored with a low shot. The second, he had an impressive coolness, dislocated defender Nacho with a body game and didn’t even give goalkeeper Courtois a chance, tying the match.

The last 45 minutes reserved many great goals for both sides. At just 3 minutes, in a move in the greatest Vinícius Jr. style, the number 20 even surrounded by 4 players from Submarino Amarelo passed with an incredible dribble and finished very well, returning the advantage to the Whites. He could still have killed the game while the opponent was weakened but stopped in a block by defender Foyth.

Villarreal would not give in easily and wanted a draw again, their biggest highlight so far would create one more move. Chukwueze received a pass falling down the right wing of the attack, in the crossing of the Nigerian the ball reached Morales who, after much dispute, managed to push the ball into the back of the goal. Even with the goal being annulled at first, VAR confirmed the legal position.

Close to the final 10 minutes of the match, a lot of emotion was reserved for the Villarreal fans, the best player of the match would simply score an anthological goal. After a counter at the edge of the area, Chukwueze looked for his left leg and with a beautiful shot hit the Belgian goalkeeper’s drawer, giving final numbers to the game.

With this triumph away from home, Submarino Amarelo reaches the fifth position in the league looking for a place for the next Champions League. Real Madrid were in a much tighter situation to take advantage of rival Barcelona in these last 10 games, but they have a final to play in the Copa del Rey and two decisions against Chelsea in the continental competition.
