Ronaldo leaving United – Cristiano Ronaldo is not sad about his departure from Manchester United. The star player and the English club of manager Erik ten Hag decided on Tuesday to terminate the ongoing contract after a scathing interview of Ronaldo.

“I love Manchester United and I love the fans, that will never change,” Ronaldo wrote in a brief statement. “Nevertheless, this feels like the right time to take on a new challenge. I wish the team every success for the future.”

It is not yet clear where Ronaldo’s future lies. He is currently preparing for his fifth World Cup with Portugal. Last summer, the five-time winner of the Golden Ball would have been offered at various clubs. His former club Sporting CP would be one of those clubs, but the chairman recently said that the club cannot pay his salary.

Ronaldo’s immediate departure from United comes as no surprise. The Portuguese recently gave a scathing interview to the well-known British journalist Piers Morgan, in which he wiped the floor with Ten Hag, the club management and former coaches and former teammates.

Ronaldo said he had a bad relationship with Ten Hag, who became manager in Manchester last summer after 4.5 successful years at Ajax. “I have no respect for him, because he doesn’t respect me either. If you don’t respect me, I’m never going to respect you.”

Ronaldo refused to play against ‘Spurs’

Ronaldo and Ten Hag got into a fight when Ronaldo refused to play in the home game against Tottenham Hotspur in October just before the end. The five-time winner of the Golden Ball visited the catacombs.

Ten Hag then left Ronaldo out of the squad for the match against Chelsea. “I haven’t had any problems at any club and with any coach. Now I was suspended for three days. I found that very difficult. And then the club also gave me a pass in the press. That was very disappointing.”

Ronaldo returned to United in the summer of 2021 after having already played there from 2003 to 2009. The Portuguese could not match the successes of his first period. He played 55 games, in which he scored 27 times. In the current season, he was only three times accurate for the team of Ten Hag.

The decision of Ronaldo and Manchester United comes two days before Portugal’s first match at the World Cup. Then the European champion of 2016 plays against Ghana. Ronaldo is captain of the Portuguese, who have never been world champions.
