Roxeanne Hazes files complaint – Roxeanne Hazes has filed a complaint with the Council for Journalism against the magazine Story. The lawyer of the singer has confirmed a message from RTL Boulevard about this.
It concerns an article that Story posted on its website on August 20. It was also in last week’s paper edition. The headline of the article reads: “Roxeanne has always lied and still does”.
A similar text was also on the cover of the magazine. The singer demands a rectification and a principled ruling from the Council for Journalism.
“Story has crossed a line with this article, which is full of demonstrable lies, as far as we are concerned,” said counsel Bernard Tomlow. “The magazine knew that the facts were different and yet knowingly presented statements of an alleged family friend as facts.”
“By doing this, Story contributes to a world in which facts no longer count. Roxeanne wants to counteract that in all the ways that are in her power,” says the lawyer. The singer has given an overview of all the untruths that she believes are in the article.

According to the counsel, the singer has deliberately chosen to file a complaint with the Council and not to go to court. “We want the Council to make it clear that these kinds of magazines or juice channels are also obliged to respect journalistic values such as check and double check or hearing,” says Tomlow.
“Story suggests in this article that it’s the truth because someone says it. That should never be an excuse to throw those journalistic values overboard,” the counsel said.
