Salzburg coach Jaissle blames Bayern Munich for corona outbreak

Red Bull Salzburg trainer Matthias Jaissle already had a hard head in a good ending against Bayern Munich due to the messy preparation. The Austrians, who were hit by a corona outbreak in the run-up to the Champions League return in the eighth finals, lost no less than 7-1 at ‘Der Rekordmeister’ on Tuesday.

“If you have seventeen players who have been quarantined, then of course you are not at 100 percent. One player has suffered a bit more than the other.

We wanted to go for it fully despite everything, but against a top team like Bayern you have to be able to play on top of you,” said Jaissle.

During the first meeting on February 16, Salzburg still managed to make it difficult for Bayern. In fact, Kingsley Coman only managed to draw a draw for Bayern (1-1) in the last minute.

A week later, a large part of the selection of the Austrians had to be quarantined due to a corona outbreak and the competition match with LASK was postponed.

In the return against Bayern it was soon a run. With three goals from Robert Lewandowski – the fastest hat-trick ever in the Champions League – the Germans were leading 3-0 within 25 minutes.

“We don’t want to whine about it and we made the best of it against Bayern Munich. But honestly you could see that one or two players were not playing at 100 percent,” said the 33-year-old Jaissle.

“This is a very bitter evening which has caused great disappointment among the players.

We had envisioned a different game, but I don’t think we are the first team to see its dream go up in smoke here.”
