On the evening of last Wednesday (29), rumors began to emerge on social media about the probable participation of British singer Sam Smith in the new album by funk singer Anitta. A post from one of the artist's fan clubs on Instagram stated that an article published in the British magazine Cosmopolitan UK confirmed that Smith and singer Chloe Bailey would be two of the already confirmed participations in the Brazilian's work.
An hour after the announcement, the artist's official account clarified that the partnership with Sam was, in fact, confirmed, but that the singer had recently given up on the venture.
“This interview was given last month. He canceled the release. We had to reschedule the album release plan and as soon as we have the date you will know. It won't be delayed much, everything else is already ready. Love you guys”he explained.
Fan reaction
The news disappointed the singer's admirers and there was no shortage of harsh criticism of the British singer.
On X (formerly Twitter), one of the users was incredulous about the situation: “HOW WAS SAM SMITH ABLE TO CANCEL THIS WITH ANITTA. I WANNA BE IS PERFECT”.
There was a lot of speculation: there were those who defended the theory that the singer should release the single regardless of Sam's participation; there were those who guaranteed that the single would be a success and that the British singer would regret it; there were also those who maintained that the ideal name to replace Smith would be the American rapper Lil Nas X.
“Funk Generation”

The interrupted partnership between Anitta and Sam Smith would be part of the singer's new work, “Funk Generation”, which should hit streaming platforms later this year. The album has been rumored for some time, but there is no official confirmation of the release date. Last year, the artist confirmed in an interview with influencer Blogueirinha that the work would arrive “in March, after Carnival”. In the album, Anitta should resume her trajectory of exalting Rio de Janeiro music, in addition to giving space to other genres or artistic expressions.
The song with Sam Smith, for example, would have a clip recorded in Sapucaí, in the middle of the parades of the Samba Schools of the Special Group of Rio de Janeiro.
