São Paulo mobilizes 20 aircraft to fight fires

This Saturday (14), the Civil Defense reported that the state of São Paulo faced the largest aerial mobilization in its history. 20 aircraft are working in this operation to combat fires in areas that are difficult to access. The weather situation is quite intense in these regions.

Flames spread to 17 more states

The situation became even more damaging when the fires began to affect 17 municipalities, including Campinas, Vale do Paraíba and other cities in Greater São Paulo. Firefighters working in the North Zone of São Paulo recorded the operations to show how difficult it is to access these affected areas.

State government teams are also mobilizing to monitor risk areas, checking air quality and weather forecasts, and seeking positive responses to a truce to the fires.

Government position

Tarcísio de Freitas, governor of São Paulo, talks about the importance of fighting fire: “The role of the crisis office is to optimize response time for the population. To ensure that the Fire Department and Civil Defense reach the fire site as quickly as possible to avoid catastrophes, tragedies and critical situations.“, he declared.

The use of aircraft was essential for areas with difficult land access, such as Caconde, Campo Limpo and Várzea Paulista.

Emergency in the state

More than a thousand fires have already been recorded in September, according to the National Institute for Space Research (INPE). The state of São Paulo remains on alert due to the number of fires. Parks will remain closed until the end of September. In 2021, the Juquery State Park, which houses a large Cerradi in the metropolitan region, had 53% of its green area consumed by fire.

Since the beginning of the month, the government has made the decision to temporarily close 79 parks and conservation units to protect the population, as the risk of new outbreaks is high. The state of São Paulo is facing the biggest crisis in its history. Civil Defense and security forces are contributing in different sectors to prevent the worst catastrophe in the state of São Paulo.
