Scammers aborted the kidnapping of Alexandre de Moraes in 2022 after postponing a vote in the STF, points out PF

The Federal Police revealed, this Tuesday (19), details of acts scammers with the aim of promoting a coup d'état in Brazil after the 2022 elections. The plans involved the kidnapping and murder of elected representatives and the Minister of the Federal Supreme Court, Alexandre de Moraes. Moraes' kidnapping was scheduled to take place after the vote on the secret budget, which, however, was postponed.

Operation 'Cup 2022'

The authors of the act communicated using code names. In conversations released by the PF, names of countries competing in the 2022 World Cup were mentioned. On December 15, 2022, the group was allegedly positioned to kidnap Alexandre de Moraes.

“The messages exchanged between members of the '2022 World Cup' group demonstrate that those being investigated were in the field, divided into specific locations to possibly carry out actions with the aim of arresting Minister Alexandre de Moraes,” said the Federal Police

The operation was aborted after a member of the group shared the information that the vote in the STF had been postponed. The exact reason that led to the cancellation of the plan has not yet been clarified.

Investigation

The Federal Police surprised the country this Tuesday (19) by triggering arrests linked to an alleged coup attempt, related to the result of the 2022 presidential elections. The operation was called “Countercoup”.

Five arrests were made involving members of an elite group of the Brazilian Army, the 'black kids'. Among those arrested are: Mario Fernandes, retired soldier and former executive secretary of the General Secretariat of the Presidency in the Jair Bolsonaro (PL) government; Rodrigo Bezerra Azevedo, major; Rafael Martins de Oliveira (Joe), major; and Wladimir Matos Soares, PF agent.

According to the PF, the soldiers involved had a highly tactical profile and experience in special and confidential operations. The group members had a document evaluating the plan, considering the success rate as “medium to high”.
