The music video for the song written by Conan, and co-written by Julia Michaels and Dan Nigro, premiered this Friday afternoon (16). In it, Gray works in a typical American diner and can't help but notice the couples in love who pass by. Keeping the aesthetic and musical style that mixes indie and pop in a melancholic and intimate mix, Conan sings that he would like to feel all the love and emotion of being in love with someone.

“But I want to feel that love and emotion, to be attached to the person I’m hugging. Someday, I’ll fall in love, without caution, but for now, I’m just a person watching.”says the chorus of “People Watching”

Conan told a little about the feelings that made him write his new work song: “‘People Watching’ is for all my fellow singles who wonder what it’s like to be deeply in love. I’ve never dated anyone in my entire life, so I’ve spent so many years of my life watching perfect couples sit in cafes drinking coffee, whispering sweet nothings to each other. However, I can’t help but fantasize about what it must be like to feel that emotion. There’s nothing I love more than watching them exist in their own little world, where seemingly no one else exists for them. The lyrics to the song are about things I’ve heard a few times when I used to people watch in college. Watching them live their lives allows me to live vicariously through them, in a way.”

With the track, the singer broke his own record. In its first 24 hours, “People Watching” reached the mark of 954,755 streams on the Spotify platform, surpassing “Onedrive”which reached 919 thousand, becoming its biggest debut. Its music video, in about 6 hours since its premiere, accumulates more than 232 thousand views, being #29 in the trending videos on YouTube.

The song's initial impact on the radio, that is, the date it will begin to be played on pop radio stations in the United States, will be on July 27th. In addition, it will be sent to the format Hot AC Radio (adult contemporary music) on July 26.
