The announcement of the death of the founder of SBT, presenter Silvio Santos, on the morning of this Saturday (17), moved not only the country, but also the world of football. The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) determined that a minute of silence be observed at all matches that will be held this weekend by the entity. The 93-year-old businessman had been hospitalized since August 1 after an infection with H1N1.

CBF speaks out on social media

Ednaldo Pereira, president of the CBF, spoke out on the entity's social media. “I deeply regret the passing of Silvio Santos, the greatest communicator in the history of Brazilian television. We will observe a minute of silence at all Brazilian football matches this round in honor of the presenter's memory,” he stated.

Several football clubs from various divisions also expressed their condolences. Corinthians, Fluminense, Palmeiras, Botafogo, São Paulo, Coritiba, Santos, Vasco da Gama, Portuguesa, Bahia, Internacional and Athético Paranaense were some of them.

Presenter recorded football carnival marches

Silvio Santos, besides being known for his television programs, was also very well remembered during the Brazilian carnival. This is because his carnival marches talking about Corinthians became famous and became a hit for several generations. The most famous was “Corinthian Heart”which featured verses like “Doctor, I'm not mistaken, my heart is Corinthian”. The presenter also recorded the “Corinthians Samba” and their companies sponsored the club in some benefits.

Despite praising the São Paulo team in his carnival songs, Silvio Santos, who was from Rio de Janeiro, supported Fluminense. During the participation of the player Neymar Jr. on his Sunday program, in July 2019, the presenter revealed to the player's father that he supported the Rio de Janeiro club. “You didn't play with Tim and Hércules, right? They played for Fluminense, who I supported when I watched football”he said at the time. In addition, his daughter Rebeca Abravanel is currently married to former soccer player Alexandre Pato.
