Singer's show ends with eight confirmed deaths and hundreds of injuries

Astroworld Festival directed by singer Travis Scott, which takes place all year in Houston, Texas (USA), was marked by a tragedy in the 2021 edition. Eight people ended up being trampled and killed and at least 300 were injured when they tried to approach the stage during the show by the artist and creator of the festival, according to information from Variety.

According to Houston authorities and The Houston Chronicle, at least 50,000 people attended the event at NRG Park. Official political information says that around 9 and 9:15 the crowd began to gather in front of the stage causing panic and people being trampled.

According to the Associated Press, 17 people were taken to the hospital and 11 of them were in cardiac arrest. Competent authorities still do not know how to explain what resulted in the accident. “The crowd started to press in front of the stage, which caused some panic, and some injuries. People started to collapse, unconscious, creating even more panic”said Houston Fire Chief Samuel Peña.

Upon realizing that something wrong was happening in the crowd, Travis Scott stopped the show numerous times. In one of the moments, Travis stops the show and asks for a fainted fan to be helped by security. “Someone passed out right here, don't touch him, don't touch him” and adds “Everyone back up, security, someone help real quick.”

People who followed the scenes decided to publish the moments on social media, to draw attention to the incident. “Another video – disturbing footage shows people jumping on top of police cars as they try to pull unconscious others from the crowd.”

The Astroworld Festival, organized by the musician, with attractions such as Bad Bunny, Earth and Wind & Fire, would continue throughout the weekend but was canceled so that police investigations could be carried out.
