The National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) announced a change in the tariff flag for electricity bills in September, reducing it from red 2 to red 1.

September tariff flag change

The National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) announced the reduction of the tariff flag on September electricity bills, from red 2 to red 1. This change means relief for consumers, as the increase in bills will be smaller than initially predicted.

The Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, had anticipated the possibility of a review of this decision, which was confirmed after the update of information from the electricity sector. With the review of the data, the energy scenario proved to be less critical than previously estimated, justifying the change in the flag and the reduction of the impact on electricity bills.

The red flag, level 1, implies a cost of R$4.463 for every 100 kWh consumed, while level 2, the highest, generates an increase of R$7.877 for the same amount of energy. Aneel reported that the new flag came into effect on September 1st, and the bills already invoiced will be adjusted with the refund scheduled for the second cycle after the adjustment is confirmed.

Data correction and recalculation

The change was prompted by a data correction in the Monthly Operation Program (PMO), managed by the National Electric System Operator (ONS). The Electric Energy Trading Chamber (CCEE) and the ONS identified an inconsistency in the data used to define red flag 2, related to a thermoelectric plant, which impacted the Difference Settlement Price (PLD). This price, which was fundamental in Aneel's decision to activate the higher flag, was corrected, allowing the tariff review.

In addition to the correction, Aneel has initiated inspection processes to audit the procedures of the agents involved in calculating the flags. The review ensures more accurate information, reinforcing the transparency of tariff decisions and their impacts on consumers.
