Golfer Jon Rahm wins his first major at US

Golfer Jon Rahm won the US Open on Sunday (local time). The Spaniard recorded a birdie on the last two holes to beat South African Louis Oosthuizen.

The 26-year-old Rahm hit his birdies on a par 4 (17th hole) and a par 5 (18th and final hole). The 38-year-old Oosthuizen also finished his tournament with a birdie, but on the par 4 he had to settle for a bogey.

With a score of -4 – he scored a total of five birdies and one bogey – Rahm scored the joint best score of the day and stayed one stroke ahead of Oosthuizen in the overall ranking (-6 to -5). The top three were completed by American Harris English (-3).

It is the first time Rahm has won one of the golfing majors (Masters, PGA Championship, US Open and British Open). The former world number one has often finished in the top five at one of the four major tournaments.

At the beginning of this month, Rahm suffered a major disappointment. The new winner of the US Open was a few weeks ago, thanks to a big lead, for the title at the USPGA Memorial Tournament in Ohio, but he tested positive for the coronavirus and could not finish the tournament.( golfer Jon Rahm wins his first major at US)
