Flamengo's current vice-president of football, Marcos Braz, was punished by the Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD) this Thursday (28) for 15 days after the trial found him guilty of insulting referee Wilton Pereira Sampaio in the match between Corinthians and Flamengo in the semi-finals of the Copa do Brasil.
Therefore, the director who is leaving the club will not be able to work or attend Rubro-Negro games in this final stretch of the season. Flamengo has three more games to play in the Brazilian Championship, two of which are at home, against Internacional and Vitória. This last game will mark striker Gabigol's farewell with the Rio club's shirt.
What happened
The Flamengo leader was denounced under article 258 of the Brazilian Code of Sports Justice (CBJD). The accusation in the aforementioned article blames him “for engaging in any conduct contrary to sports discipline or ethics not typified by the other rules of this Code”.
In the second match of the Copa do Brasil semi-final against Corinthians in São Paulo, the match referee, Wilton Pereira Sampaio, noted in the match summary that Marcos Braz made attacks on the match's refereeing team.
Wilton Pereira wrote in the summary that “After the end of the match, when the refereeing team headed to the locker room, in the mixed zone, Mr. Marcos Teixeira Braz, vice-president of the Clube de Regatas do Flamengo, shouted the following words, repeatedly, towards the refereeing team: “You're going to f… with Brazilian football, you're going to take it to the c…, VAR is going to end Brazilian football”
Punishment for Braz
Marcos Braz received the minimum sentence, with 15 days suspended. The article provided for a maximum sentence of up to 180 days without being able to attend and work at Flamengo games. Previously, he had been tried for the same article on November 11, but he obtained a suspension and continued working and attending the club's games normally.
Rubro-Negro had the option, in the trial on November 11, to exchange the punishment for a fine of 40 thousand reais, but chose to try to acquit the STJD, which did not happen and now the process can no longer be appealed.
The trial
Online, the trial took place this Thursday (28) and Marcos Braz chose not to participate, being represented by his defense lawyer, Michel Assef Filho, who asked the court auditors for an understanding for the leader, as he will not be working more with football in 2025 and with the punishment he will not have the right to say goodbye to the club he dedicated himself to voluntarily over the last six years.
The defense's request did not succeed and, unanimously, the full STJD decided to maintain the punishment for the director and thus, as it is the last resort, no further appeals will be available and Braz is out of Flamengo football in advance.

What does the punishment say
Braz's suspension deprives him of participating in any competition promoted by the CBF and of having access to reserved areas of football stadiums during the club's matches. He will also not be able to perform any official act relating to the club and football, therefore, when Gabigol says goodbye in the last match of the season, he will not be able to be at Maracanã.
Thus, after the 15 days of suspension, the season will have already ended and the elections to define the club's new president will also have been held.
Flamengo still has three games to play, two of which are at Maracanã, against Internacional and Vitória. The match against Criciúma will be at the opponent's stadium.
