Kyle Eastwood, jazz as a legacy
Swing in Mirepoix celebrates its 25th anniversary: the festival program
The eldest son of Clint Eastwood, Kyle grew up with a father who was passionate about music who introduced him to jazz, from Duke Ellington to Count Basie, and also from Miles Davis who came to play at his parents’ house…
He made his first film appearance, at the age of 6, in Michael Cimino’s “The Duck” and in 1995 played in “On the Road to Madison”, alongside his father and Meryl Streep.
After two years of film studies, he decided to focus solely on music, his true passion, which has occupied him for thirty years.
A virtuoso bassist and talented composer, he also composed with his father some musical themes for his films. Less and less perceived as “the son of”, Kyle is considered a universally respected artist with good reason.
Since its beginnings, it has never ceased to pay tribute to various currents of jazz, from that of the 1950s to electro jazz and the chic and mixed sets of the contemporary urban scene.
Author of a dozen albums including a variation on the cult melodies of cinema, he sublimates, with his quintet, the ballad of “Gran Torino”, swings “Pink Panther” and grooves “Skyfall”.
An inventive prodigy of elegant and refined playing with a warm and deep sound, Kyle Eastwood tirelessly explores the possibilities of the bass, a magnificent instrument that is both melodic and rhythmic.
